About me
Dr. James Rothman is the Sterling Professor of Cell Biology at Yale University, Chairman of the Yale School of Medicine's Department of Cell Biology, and Director and founder of the Nanobiology Institute on Yale's West Campus. Dr. Rothman received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2013 for his discovery of key molecular machinery responsible for transport among compartments of cells, illustrating the mechanism of SNARE protein complexes which mediate vesicle budding and fusion. His current research concerns the biophysics of membrane fusion and its regulation in exocytosis; the Golgi apparatus; and the use of bio-inspired design in nanotechnology. Dr. Rothman is a fellow of Branford College and graduated from Yale College in 1971.
